Educator Open House Season!

Hello Teachers!

Now that Back to School Night is a distant memory (phew!),  let's turn our attention to something more fun. 'Tis the Season! It's Educator Open House Season at museums and it's practically my favorite time of year. These educator-only events are fun, informative and (mostly) free. And it's your chance to learn more about some of the awesome organizations in our community that are here to help you.

So I'll start with the one event that isn't free and isn't in San Diego because it's coming up soon(est). This Saturday, October 12, the California Science Center in Los Angeles, is hosting Endeavor Fest Professional Development Workshops, which it hopes will "enhance not only your teaching practice, but also your own knowledge and interest in space exploration." (Confession: I know zilch about space.) The workshops are broken down by grade - PreK-2, 3-5, and 4-6. The event costs $35 per person and runs from 9:00am until 12:00pm. (That's a little more than $11 an hour, which isn't that bad!) For more information or to RSVP, head here.

Next stop, San Diego Natural History Museum! On Thursday, October 24, theNAT will host Educator Night from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. I went last year. The event is free and totally worth it. (You even get to watch a movie!) To RSVP, just call (619) 255-0285.

And then there's the Teacher Open House at the Fleet Science Center on Tuesday, October 29. This event is also free. It runs from 5:30pm until 8:00pm. And you get to see their IMAX film, Cosmic Collisions! For more information or to RSVP, head here.

And last but not least, Mingei International Museum will welcome K-12 educators to their Educators' Open House on Wednesday, October 30 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm. I have heard that there will be hands-on art workshops and art supplies galore! Head here to learn more about this event.
