Anyone else out there making plans for the weekend already?
Yes, I know it's only Tuesday, but I can't help myself. Because this Sunday, May 18, is Art Museum Day. And to celebrate, over 170 museums throughout North America will be free and open to the public. Moreover, most of those museums are also offering special programming as part of the day's festivities, so there will be lots of things to see and do.
This year's list of participating museums is impressive. (Hello, Walker Art Center. I'd love to visit you.) In Southern California, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Laguna Art Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, and The San Diego Museum of Art are all on the list. Which means it's the perfect time to see the Frida Kahlo, Her Photos at MOLAA. Or Wayne Thiebaud: American Memories at Laguna Art Museum. And just in case you can't make it to the real Museo Tamayo in Mexico City on Art Museum Day, MCASD La Jolla will is opening a brand new exhibit featuring work from its collection.
So start planning, folks!
